Blue Ridge is that one-of-a-kind place that truly highlights the best of each season. The glow of summer is officially here and we wanted to share a few of our favorite things to do while escaping the heat.
We couldn’t pick just one of these, therefore our first selection is a tie…hence “Our Top 5 ½ Activities…” title. Spending time on a boat or Jet Ski is a summertime necessity. Don’t own one? We can help you! Lake Blue Ridge offers exquisitely clear aquamarine waters. The 3,290-acre lake offers several boat ramps, and a full-service marina.
Fly Fishing is quite possibly the most serene activity that Blue Ridge offers. Being in the peace and quiet, surrounded by the beauty of Mother Nature on the river. Flowing from beneath Blue Ridge Dam lies the cold, clear water of the lower Toccoa River. This 15-mile river stretch has earned a reputation among anglers as one of the best trout rivers in north Georgia. Due to its relatively large size, it is favored water for fly-fishing enthusiasts.
Whether it’s a leisurely float or flying down world-class rapids, the Toccoa and Ocoee Rivers offer all options. We are fortunate to have these waters in our backyard. If the need for speed is your thing, you have the opportunity to navigate the same stretch of river used to host the whitewater slalom events during the 1996 Summer Olympics.
One of the newest and fastest growing water sports. Paddleboarding is a great way to experience the gorgeous landscape of Northern Georgia, while getting some exercise at the same time. Both Lake Blue Ridge and Toccoa River provide excellent paddleboarding locations.
Waterfalls define part of the natural wonder of Blue Ridge and the Northern Georgia area. One of our favorites is Long Creek Falls, which can be seen by hiking down a short side trail from the combined Appalachian/Benton MacKaye Trail. These falls total about 50 feet in two distinct drops. For an entire list of waterfalls, please click here.
